Frequently Asked Questions

Is the building accessible?

Yes. We recently had new automatic doors fitted, making our entrance fully accessible, and we also have an accessible toilet, which includes baby changing facilities.

Is there parking available?

Yes, but spaces are very limited. We have three parking spaces for library users, one of which is a dedicated wheelchair bay. Parking in the village can be difficult, so we would advise using public transport or other means of travel where possible.

Do I need a library card to borrow books?

Yes, but it only takes a few minutes to fill out a membership form, and our friendly volunteers can assist you with this. We then send the information to our colleagues at The Word, our area's central library hub, who in turn register you and send us your shiny new library card for you to collect on your next visit.

This card then gives you access to not only our collection of books, but every South Tyneside library, both community ran and local authority owned. It also allows you to use a plethora of online resources, such as Ebooks, EMagazine and EAudiobook loan, via the Library and Borrowbox apps.

Is there free Wi-Fi?

Unfortunately, no. However we do have a small cluster of public computers which are free to use, and are connected to the internet.

Do you accept card payments?

No, we currently do not have facilities for taking card payments, so we are cash only at this time. We are looking into a cost effective method of taking card and contactless payments in the future, but currently fees for the required equipment and processing fees per transaction are proving prohibitive.
