Whitburn Community Library
The library holds regular monthly evening events that include expert talks on a range of different subjects, live music nights and regular wine tasting evenings. Our ticketed events contribute towards the running of the library. We also have quarterly book sales, where we sell the books that are kindly donated to us by the local community, and have raffles and tombolas which often have prizes contributed by local shops and businesses. We are very grateful to have the support of the whole village community.
We also run a monthly '100 Club' draw, to win £20 first prize, or £10 runner up prize each month. This is paid for annually, and costs £12 for the year, payable by October 1st.
Our rhyme time sessions are for 0-3 year olds and their caregivers. Sessions include nursery rhymes, interactive songs and stories as well as providing an opportunity for grown-ups to meet and chat.
Our toybox is looking a little bit tired and we would really appreciate any donations of toys that your little ones have outgrown. Please drop them into the library during normal opening hours.
Our ever popular Quiz Nights!
Join us for general knowledge, music and picture rounds in a friendly atmosphere for only £3 per person.
Upcoming dates for the quiz are:
Monday 4th December
Monday 8th January 2024
Monday 18th December - "The General strike and 1926 miners' lockout; the Durham miners' communist moment?” With Dr. Lewis Mates
All talks begin at 7pm, and cost £3 per person.
Do you have a special interest or are particularly knowledgeable on a subject, and would like to share it with others in the community? We always welcome fresh topics and have a number of dates available if you would like to host a talk with us in the library. There are digital projector facilities available, so you can include photographs, powerpoint presentations and other visual aids to your talk if desired. Just contact us at info@whitburnlibrary.co.uk or drop in during regular opening hours to discuss the possibilities.
